As a married jw, I fell in love with a "worldly" friend and ended up doing stuff that landed me in a judicial committee. For six hours the elders tried to rewrite my memories of this man, telling me it couldn't possibly be real love. I was mindf*$ked to say the least. It took me years to get back my original feelings and claim them for myself. So many times I let elders get into my head and rewrite my history. Not good for one's mental health. Not good at all.

On knowing what you are not supposed to know and . . .
by Lady Lee inover 20 years ago i came across this theory "on knowing what you are not supposed to know and feeling what you are not supposed to feel" at the time my focus was on abusive families and how this concept fit into it.
the citation for the article follows but i will break it down.
title: on knowing what you are not supposed to know and feeling what you are not supposed to feel.author(s)/editor(s): bowlby, johnsource/citation: canadian journal of psychiatry; vol 24(5) aug 1979, canada: canadian psychiatric assn; 1979, 403-408abstract/review/citation: contends that much psychopathology stems from impressions, scenes, and experiences of childhood having been forgotten yet continuing to influence thought, feeling, and action.

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle - has anyone read it?
by Scully ini'm considering reading this book and was wondering whether anyone from jwd has already read it and would like to share their thoughts on it.
being ever-the-skeptic, i'm intrigued by a philosophy that appears to embrace reality and the here-and-now, but i'm wary of the new-age-y-sounding-ness of it as well.
what do "believers" think of the book?

I've read it. I'm on the Oprah forum as well. It's funny how this book has spurred such a heated discussion. Interesting to see how it all unfolds.

"At the time when we first leave we could barely explain it to ourselves never mind to a RV of any age."
Very good point Uzzah. I remember attempting that with a couple of bible studies. Pretty sure I confused the hell out of them. Oh well. It was a crazy time. Glad I've got perspective on it now.

I didn't see the original, but I think Diddy was pretty good in the role.

lol @ Uzzah.
Ya, it's really weird. I'm having some good memories come up. She was a really great lady. I wish I'd gone back and said goodbye to her after I DA'd. I just wasn't sure how to explain it all to a 90 year old. From what I can tell, my mom probably took her over and continued to call on her.

Right now on ABC is premiering a movie called "A Raisin in the Sun". It has Sean "Diddy" Combs in it. Anyhow, it was filmed here in Toronto and if you're watching the movie, the house they just bought is the home of one of my old return visits. She was a sweet little old lady who died shortly after I DA'd. I called on her every week for a few years. I never got to say goodbye to her.
Apparently after she died, her grandson opened the house for this movie to film there. It's odd seeing her living room. The fireplace we used to sit in front of as I shared the latest magazines with her. They even kept her old wallpaper. So bizarre to be seeing it coming from my television set. Surreal to say the least.

The photos brought tears to my eyes. There is indeed a beauty to the starkness. It's a wonderful place to be in life where you can look back on where you've been and see some beauty there. And to look at who you've become and see beauty there too, well that's incredible.

Thin line of Hate and Love
by Sparkplug inso my 15 year old girl at quite, the age", is riding in the car with me as we are driving back from the dentist.
we have a little 4 year old passenger and as we drive we notice someone has stolen a street camera from above the stoplight system.
three city workers in bright jackets are standing and staring at it perplexed and it is a rather amusing site.

Great story. Brilliant kid.
Back in my jw days, there was this little 6 year old girl who was constantly amazing me with her mind. One day we were traveling on a streetcar through a rough part of town. She noticed graffiti on some of the buildings we were passing and asked why I thought people did that. I turned the question back to her.
She said, "I think they do it because they're angry and no one will listen to them."
Interestingly, she hated meetings and would often act up to the point her mother would have to take her home. To this day, she still asks my mom how I am (out of earshot of her parents of course). I fully expect her to land on my doorstep one day telling me she's no longer a jw. I can only hope.

Happy Family Day to Canadians!
by fjtoth inthis is a new holiday in canada, and i wonder what "pagan origin" the watchtower society will attach to it in order to get jws to avoid it and to instead spend the day selling books and magazines.
if jws do spend the day in so-called "field service," it will surely draw criticism from their canadian neighbours who appreciate the anti-workaholic purpose and spirit of the day.. .

Well, I just had my jw parents over for lunch and they didn't have a problem with it being family day. I'd like to think the wts won't mess this one up too.
